Classes & Activities Are Available at Trailside to Help Children Explore Nature

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – Space is still available in daytime and after-school classes and activities for children at Trailside Nature and Science Center in Mountainside. A variety of late winter and early spring programs for young children and their families are designed to foster awareness and appreciation of the natural world around us.

Daytime drop-off programs during “Small Fry Days” in February and March offer children ages 4-6 years old a chance to explore natural topics on Tuesdays from 9:45-11:00 a.m. or Wednesdays from 1:15-2:30 p.m. at Trailside. Pre-registration is required; the fee is $8 per child for Union County residents, $10 for out-of-county children.

Another drop-off activity – “After-School Explorations” – is designed to acquaint first and second-graders with nature through hikes and other outdoor activities on Thursdays from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Pre-registration is required; the fee is $8 per child for Union County residents, $10 for out-of-county children.

The whole family will enjoy “The Journey of Sap to Syrup” on Saturday, Feb. 18, and Monday, Feb. 20, as you learn how real maple syrup is made from the sap of sugar maple trees. These journeys are held rain or shine. Pre-registration is required; the fee is $5 per person for Union County residents, $6 for out-of-county participants.
