Every place, every person, and every object has a history, but not all histories are told.
Which stories are you telling at your site? Which ones could you be telling?
In this interactive talk, Dr. Mary Rizzo will explore the concept of untold histories. Using real-world examples, she will show how historical and cultural organizations are telling these stories successfully and helping to diversify the kind of history that is presented to the public. Drawing on her career in public history, academic research and work as founder and chair of the annual Telling Untold Histories unconference, she’ll talk frankly about challenges of doing this work, from ethical considerations to developing trusting relationships with community members.
Funded in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
