Saturday Outdoor Adventures

Families with children of all ages are invited to take part in theme hikes/nature related talks.  Programs last about 45 minutes.  Donations appreciated.

April 14 – Orange Trail Hike – April is a great time for blooming spring wildflowers.  Explore the Orange Trail for wildflowers and other signs of spring.  Learn why forest wildflowers bloom at this time.  2:00 PM.

April 21 – Celebrate Earth Day – Earth Day happens every year on April 22nd.  Learn how you can give back to the earth by making your backyard a healthy habitat. Stop by Trailside’s backyard habitats and to see which animal neighbors are visiting.  2:00 PM.

May 5 – Astronomy Day – Suitable for the entire family. Enjoy children’s activities and a presentation on “The Three Planets of Summer: Mars, Jupiter & Saturn.”  For additional information visit the Amateur Astronomers, Inc. at www.asterism.org.  1:00 – 4:00 PM.

May 5 – Stargazing at Union County College – Visit the William Miller Sperry Observatory for an evening of night sky gazing (weather permitting). 1033 Springfield Ave. Cranford. For additional information visit the Amateur Astronomers, Inc. at www.asterism.org.  7:30 – 10:30 PM.

May 12 – Salamander Search – Hike the trails in search of these elusive amphibians under rocks and logs.  Learn how to catch, identify and release northern two-lined, redback and slimy salamanders.  2:00 PM.
