The role of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs, Drugs, and Violent Crimes Task Force is to manage and coordinate investigations and prosecutions of major crimes occurring countywide, with a particular focus on those defendants engaged in criminal activity who are also integral parts of criminal enterprises or street gangs.

The Task Force traces its roots back to the Union County Narcotic Strike Force, which was established in 1971 and was the oldest countywide, multi-jurisdictional narcotics investigative unit in the State of New Jersey. The Task Force is the largest field unit within the Prosecutor’s Office and is comprised of police officers from various Union County municipalities, a team of assistant prosecutors, and investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office. Responsibilities of Task Force representatives include municipal search warrant preparation, speaking engagements to civic and governmental groups regarding drug law enforcement, technical and surveillance assistance managed in cooperation with numerous law enforcement agencies, maintenance of an extensive and sophisticated equipment inventory, and the presentation of training courses at the John H. Stamler Police Academy.
