Shawn Harwell, Jr Charged with Murder
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office charged Shawn Hartwell, Jr., 23 years old of Elizabeth, NJ, of murder in the shooting death of Bashon Rose, 22 years old of Newark, N.J. on December26, 2008. The incident occurred in Roselle at approximately 11:00 pm in the area of Drake Ave. and St. Georges Ave. Hartwell is a confirmed member of the Crips. Mr. Rose was a confirmed member of the Valentine Set of the Bloods. This case was investigated by Detective Kevin Grimmer of the UCPO Homicide Task Force and was assisted by members of the Roselle PD detective bureau. Bail was set by the Honorable Scott J. Moynihan, J.S.C., in the amount of 3 million dollars.
Hartwell has been incarcerated since November 10, 2011 on Murder charges stemming from the November 9, 2011 shooting death of Montau “Monty” McCloud, 31 years old, of Linden, NJ. The shooting occurred in Roselle at approximately 11:30 pm in the area of the 1100 block of Warren St. This case was investigated by Detective Travis Koziol of the UCPO Homicide Task Force. McCloud had no gang affiliation and the incident appeared to be due to an ongoing dispute. Hartwell’s bail in this matter was set at 2 million dollars, for a total of 5 million dollars bail on both charges.
