A Summit man was indicted last week in Union County after an investigation revealed that he regularly sexually abused a young boy over a period of six years, announced Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas Jr.

Jose Jimenez DOB: 1/22/1961 of Orchard Street in Summit was indicted on Friday of 1st Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and 2nd Degree Endangering the Welfare of a child. The victim was 8-years-old when the abuse started, according to the investigators.

An investigation was launched in January 2012 by Det. Matthew Bunin of the Summit Police Department after the child disclosed the abuse to his mother. Jimenez was arrested on a Grayhound Bus in New Mexico, near the United State’s border with Mexico on January 30, 2012. He was returned to Union County and is being held on $300,000 bail.

This remains an active investigation and anyone with additional information is urged to contact Union County Prosecutor’s Office Det. Brian O’Malley at (908) 965-3809.
