Earlier today, a Union County Grand Jury returned a 14-count indictment against Sergio Pastor, a disbarred attorney with a former sole practice in Cranford, announced Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.
Pastor was charged in the indictment with six counts of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property Received, one count of issuing bad checks, and seven counts of Unauthorized Practice of Law.
Pastor was suspended from practicing law on August 28, 2012 by the New Jersey Supreme Court after an investigation revealed that he had allegedly misappropriated more than $117,000 from the estate of a deceased client, said Park.
It is alleged that he continued to practice law for more than seven months after he was suspended during which time he continued to appear in various municipal courts on behalf of clients, accept attorney fees and handle real estate closings. The investigation was handled by the Prosecutor’s Office Special Prosecution Unit and Assistant Prosecutor Ann Rubin.
The New Jersey Supreme Court ordered Pastor to be disbarred in June 2013.
Pastor posted $150,000 bail and was released. A first court appearance will be scheduled in the coming days.
