Two Charged in Connection with Plainfield Homicide
Two men arrested in Florida late last week have been transported to Union County and formally charged in connection with a recent Plainfield homicide, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Monday.
Plainfield residents Rodney Rosario, 28, and Angel Rosario Mejia, 22, are being held on $2 million bail apiece with no cash allowance at Union County Jail, charged with murder in connection with the November 24, 2013 shooting death of Jose Luis Disla Cordero, 28, of Plainfield.
Police rushed to the 700 block of East Sixth Street in Plainfield on the date of the homicide to discover the body of Cordero in his apartment. An intensive joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division resulted in the identification of Rosario and Mejia as suspects, and charges against both were filed in early December 2013.
With the assistance of FBI special agents assigned to the bureau’s Newark Division, the two men were tracked and ultimately arrested in Miami on January 2, 2014 before being flown to Newark Liberty International Airport and taken into custody there by Union County investigators over the weekend.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information about the matter is being urged to contact Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Janet Lopez at 908-344-3324 or Detective Johnny Ho at 908-344-3308.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
