Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a Plainfield man that took place Friday afternoon, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Saturday.
The victim of the shooting has been identified as Rashawn Bryant, 24, of Myrtle Avenue.
It was approximately 5:15 p.m. on Friday when Bryant and several friends were standing in front of a home on the 300 block of Evona Avenue in Plainfield, according to a joint investigation being conducted by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division. A vehicle subsequently pulled up to the scene and several gunshots were fired from inside.
Bryant was struck by gunfire and was transported via medical helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday.
