With our ever increasing reliance on the automobile and our road system, road repair is inevitable.

The County of Union New Jersey continues to strive in providing the best possible roads to ensure the motoring public's safety, convenience and enjoyment. We know the inconvenience that road repairs bring and we make every effort to complete them in a timely manner. Any project requiring road closure will have a clearly marked detour route maintained by a county work force during hours of work.

In addition, Union County residents have this handy web page to help them anticipate road construction and plan for alternate routes and extra travel time when construction affects them. This page is designed to inform motorists of current or planned projects that will affect travel conditions on county roads. Please note that details regarding any of the projects listed are subject to change so check back often.

NEW POSTING NOTICE- April 18, 2014

NOTICE OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Project Owner: City of Plainfield NJ

Contractor: Smith-Sondy, Wallington, NJ

Traffic Manager: County of Union

Please be advised that Park Ave from E. 9th St to E. Front St in Plainfield will be under construction. The proposed start date is on or about April 23, 2014. The work is expected to take 5 days to complete weather permitting.

The work being performed will consist of various road improvements, such as milling, paving, and striping of the road. Due to the nature of the work involved, the amount of men and machinery required, full road closure will be necessary in the area of work to optimize the safety of the work crews and motoring public alike. The road will be closed from approximately 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day weather permitting.

A clearly marked detour route will be established and maintained by County forces. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through at all times. Access to residences, including deliveries and other services, in the work zone will be allowed as much as possible.

Should you have any traffic questions, please call the County Traffic Bureau at (908) 789-6011 during normal business hours. If any emergencies should arise, please contact your municipal Police Department.

Road Opening Permits

Please be advised that any and all work that involves excavation to any Union County jurisdiction roadway, including the installation of curbs, utility extensions, etc., will require a Road Opening Permit from the Union County Bureau of Inspections.
