Blizzard Storm Warning in Effect
from Monday through Wednesday
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning that covers the greater Union County area. It is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday to midnight Tuesday.  The wintery weather begins tomorrow morning with minor snowfall but intensifies throughout the afternoon and then evening with the heaviest snow expected around midnight and into Tuesday morning.  The governor of New Jersey has declared a state of emergency.

A total Snow Accumulation of up to 20 to 30 inches is possible with sustained winds from 25-35 MPH, and a maximum gust of 50 MPH possible.  Temperatures will eventually sink into the teens as a low. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders urge you to be prepared at home and on the road if you must travel.

Closures & Cancellations
  • All park facilities are closed until further notice. This includes Trailside Nature & Science Center, Warinanco Ice Skating Center, Watchung Stable, Galloping Hill and Ash Brook golf courses and the Westfield and Elizabeth Reservation Desks.
  • County Employees – County offices do not close during major weather-related events. As is the County’s practice, if anyone designated as non-essential personnel feels he/she cannot safely travel to work during these weather events, please consider using vacation or personal time to stay home. In addition, per resolution 2014-481, non-essential employees may also choose to use available sick and/or comp time during a Governor-declared State of Emergency that impacts the County of Union. If no accrued leave time is available, non-essential employees may take the day without pay.
  • Court and Court Vicinage System closed Tuesday.
  • Meals on Wheels will not deliver meals Tuesday, and congregate sites will be closed.
  • Paratransit and the Route 22 Shuttle will be suspended Tuesday.
  • Sheriff Sales for Wednesday at 2pm, have been cancelled.
  • Vo-Tech will be closed on Tuesday.
  • Union County College will be closed Tuesday.
  • NJ Transit will depart from its point of origin at 8 p.m. tonight and scheduled to arrive at their final destinations by/at 10 p.m.
