{"id":35,"date":"2019-08-14T20:24:07","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T20:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ucnj.org\/boe\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:32:56","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T16:32:56","slug":"challengers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ucnj.org\/boe\/challengers\/","title":{"rendered":"Challengers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-subtle-background-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is a challenger?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A challenger is a person who is appointed by a candidate, political party or proponent or opponent of a public question who observes the voting process and can challenge a voter\u2019s right to vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-subtle-background-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Challengers Do&#8217;s and Dont&#8217;s<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Challengers are seated near the check-in table. Not behind. Close enough so they can hear the voter, but not so close they interfere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challengers may NOT touch election materials or the machines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challengers are entitled to hear the voter&#8217;s name and address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challengers may only speak to the poll workers &#8211; not the voters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challengers may question a voter&#8217;s legal authority to vote\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not 18<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does not live in the district the are voting in<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not a US citizen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not a registered voter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a challenger wants to &#8220;challenge&#8221; someone&#8217;s right to vote, the process is outlined on the envelope with the challenger forms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-subtle-background-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Forms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pursuant to PL 2025 c.23, the appointment of or application for challengers shall be filed with the County Board not later than the third Tuesday preceding any election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d6a301e70054dddf3a0eab2a82456488\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ucnj.org\/boe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2025\/03\/challengerrequestform2025.pdf\">Application for Appointment of Election Day Challengers<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is a challenger?
