Commissioner Andrea Staten reflects the epitome of passion and motivation for building strong communities at every level of engagement. Her life’s work has been focused on helping people achieve success at the highest level, and creating opportunities for access and fulfillment of personal goals.
With over 28 years in the mortgage banking industry, Commissioner Staten has created homeownership opportunities for thousands of families throughout New Jersey. When the time came for her to make a personal decision to relocate to Roselle in 1997, Staten quickly dedicated her time and service to several community organizations over the years.
Staten’s journey as a public servant soared to new heights during her service as a Class V Commissioner on the Roselle Planning Board. It was during this period, through her examination of proposed planning projects first-hand, where she became more passionate about her vision for collectively achieving the stabilization of property taxes, improved public safety for the community, beautiful parks and recreation facilities for children and seniors.
In June 2014, Staten was appointed to serve as Third Ward Councilwoman of the Borough of Roselle, filling the unexpired term of the late Councilman Randy T. Sandifer. She was later elected to serve a full three-year term on the Borough Council. Staten served as committee member for the Human Resources and Finance Department, Committee Chair of the Department of Recreation, and a Class Ill Commissioner on the Roselle Planning Board. She is currently a member of the Union County Democratic Women’s Club. In November 2018, Andrea was elected to the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders to serve a three-year term.
Among her many honors, Staten has been the recipient of: the Roselle Collaborative Community Vision Award for her enthusiasm and commitment to the community; the 2015 Political Woman of the Year award for outstanding community service by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Eta Omicron Zeta Chapter; the 2016 Women of Shachah -God’s Trophy Woman Award; the 2017 Women at the Forefront Legacy Award; the M.R.S Incorporated of Plainfield, NJ 2018 Jersey Women Who Rock award; and the 2019 Compulsive Magazine “Inspired by You” award.
