Throughout his tenure, he has served as Vice Chairman six times and Chairman seven times, including during the critical years of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the pandemic, Mirabella led Union County\u2019s response, implementing essential services such as New Jersey\u2019s first county-based drive-through testing site at Kean University, mobile test sites, testing for the homebound, and coordinating the vaccine rollout in early 2021. He also managed federal CARES Act funds to provide meals, support small businesses, schools, libraries, nonprofits, and offer child care and rental assistance. His leadership extended to recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Ida in 2021, ensuring economic support for impacted residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mirabella\u2019s \u201cUnion County Rising\u201d initiative in 2021 focused on COVID-19 response, economic development, parks improvements, and inclusive services, while maintaining fiscal stability to avoid tax increases or layoffs. In past roles as Chairman, he has expanded Union County parks through the Open Space Trust Fund, developed the Office of Veterans Affairs Services, created the Office of LGBTQ Affairs, and introduced the Sensory Friendly Theater program. His focus also includes infrastructure, workforce development, and sustainability measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, Mirabella serves as Trust Fund Chair of the Union County Performing Arts Center Board of Trustees, and is a member of the Fire Services Advisory Board, Veterans Affairs Committee, the Union County Labor Advisory Board, the Union County Fiscal Committee and the Open Space, Recreation and Historic Trust Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commissioner Mirabella is the sole NJ Director to the National Association of Counties (NACO) and was appointed as the Vice Chair of the International Economic Development Task Force and the Finance, Pension and Intergovernmental committees and is a member of the Large Urban County Caucus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mirabella is on the Board of Trustees for Wenzhou-Kean University in China and John Cabot University in Italy. He has also been instrumental in supporting Union College of Union County, NJ (UCNJ) and played a key role in establishing the Union County Vocational-Technical High Schools. He organizes the annual Columbus Day Italian flag-raising event and was honored by the Italian Tribune as the \u201cChristopher Columbus Man of the Year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, he served on the Roselle Park Borough Council from 1991 to 1996. Mirabella graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, NY, with a degree in Economics.
