Coverage may include doctor visits, hospital services, prescriptions, preventive care, behavioral health services, and other medically necessary services.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Union County Division of Social Services assists eligible residents with NJ FamilyCare programs, including Medicaid coverage for individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the information and resources below to learn more about eligibility, how to apply, required documents, and how to get help with your benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who is eligible?<\/strong> New Jersey Residents who are<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Children under 19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adults 19-64<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pregnant Residents <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-accent-background-color has-background\">NJ FamilyCare Application Checklist<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A friendly guide to help you get ready.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-subtle-background-background-color has-background\">1. Before You Apply<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gather this information before you begin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The NJ address where you live and an address where you get your mail, if different from where you live.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Names and birthdates of everyone in your household, and the due date of pregnant household members.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Social Security Number for everyone in your household, if they have one. <strong>You can still apply if you don&#8217;t have an SSN.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U.S. Citizenship or immigration status of everyone asking for NJ FamilyCare coverage.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immigration status can include Lawful Permanent Resident, refugee, visa, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will need to include information from the immigration document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income and tax filing status of each person in your household.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If employed:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employer name and address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start month and year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gross income (income before taxes are taken out).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Know whether they are paid every week, once every two weeks, twice a month, or once a month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other income, if received, such as SSI, unemployment, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose a Health Plan. Find out what plan your doctors accept.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-subtle-background-background-color has-background\">2. Applying &amp; Following Up<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simple steps that can help your application:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider creating an online NJ FamilyCare account. You will need an email address to do this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benefits of an online account include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Access to an electronic copy of your application with NJ FamilyCare contact information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability to check your application status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability to upload documents instead of mailing or faxing them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be sure to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fill out the application completely and correctly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open all mail and respond quickly to any NJ FamilyCare letters requesting information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may be asked to provide proof of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identity, including IDs, birth certificates, residency documents, and passports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U.S. Citizenship or immigration status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income, including profit and loss statements for people who are self-employed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Call the <strong>NJ FamilyCare Eligibility Determining Agency<\/strong> listed on your Confirmation Page with any questions or to check your application status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-subtle-background-background-color has-background\">3. If You Are Approved<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What to expect after approval:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You should receive a plastic <strong>Health Benefits Identification Card<\/strong> within <strong>1\u20132 weeks<\/strong> after your application has been approved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you had NJ FamilyCare in the past, your old card might be reactivated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Questions or need a new card? It provides quality health care at little or no cost to its members.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>What Is Covered?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NJ FamilyCare offers full health care coverage through health plans contracted by New Jersey. NJ FamilyCare covers most health care needs including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 doctor visits \u2022 x-rays \u2022 eyeglasses \u2022 autism services \u2022 prescriptions \u2022 hospitalization \u2022 mental health services&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u2022community doula services \u2022 lab tests \u2022 dental \u2022 specialist visits \u2022 help with personal care needs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Who Is Eligible?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children, adults, and pregnant women can qualify for NJ FamilyCare based on their family size and income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The income limit for children to qualify is higher than the income limit for adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The federal government has changed the rules around who is eligible for NJ<\/strong> <strong>FamilyCare<\/strong> <strong>starting Fall 2026.<\/strong> These rule changes are part of the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill Act\u201d that was signed into law by President Trump in July 2025. <strong>These new rules do not apply to everyone.<\/strong> <em>NJ<\/em> <em>FamilyCare<\/em> <em>will contact you by Fall 2026 with more information if these changes apply to you. In the meantime, you should keep using your benefits.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Beginning October 1, 2026:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some non-citizen immigrants may no longer qualify for NJ FamilyCare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Beginning January 1, 2027:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Certain adults aged 19 to 64 will have to work, volunteer, or go to school to keep their coverage or qualify for NJ FamilyCare. This is called \u201ccommunity engagement.\u201d These members must also renew their coverage every 6 months (instead of every 12 months).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other adults aged 19 to 64 may be exempt from the requirement to work, volunteer, or go to school, but they may still have to renew their coverage every 6 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/humanservices\/dmahs\/obbba\/medicaid-federal-changes.shtml\">Click here to learn more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NJ<\/strong> <strong>FamilyCare<\/strong> <strong>es una cobertura de atenci\u00f3n de la salud financiada con fondos p\u00fablicos para los residentes de New Jersey.
