Eventually, the Peregrine Falcon was <strong>extirpated<\/strong> (l<em>ocal extinction, but live elsewhere<\/em>) from the state in the late 1950\u2019s.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When <strong>DDT<\/strong> (<em>weakened the eggshells of many birds, causing parents to accidentally crush their eggs<\/em>) was banned in 1972, Peregrine falcons were reintroduced into the wild and began breeding again in the 1980\u2019s. Their numbers have been increasing ever since.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-subtle-background-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Behavior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Peregrines are one of the <strong>most fearsome raptors in the world<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are known to attack much larger birds such as Bald Eagles, Osprey and other hawks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When defending a nest, they will charge and attack anything that approaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Despite that, they are excellent hunters and very dutiful parents, targeting prey such as pigeons, gulls, orioles, cardinals, woodpeckers and sparrows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-subtle-background-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How the Fastest Animal on Earth Attacks Its Prey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Peregrine falcon is not your average avian predator. Forsythe NWR, Richard W. Dekorte Park, Palisade Interstate Park always have Peregrine Falcons.
