YMCA – Union Branch

Union County Commissioner Chairman Sergio Granados joined staff and preschoolers of the Five Points Branch YMCA for a tour of their garden!

Here, students and staff planted a variety of plants including but not limited to sunflowers, squash, and eggplants. Thank you for having us!

Roselle Park Community Garden

Thanks to the Union County Means Green Community Garden Grant, the Roselle Park Environmental Commission was able to replace some of our old wooden raised beds, and the seedlings have helped us grow well over 100lbs of organic produce in our community beds for distribution to the community!

Richmond Towers

Today we joined Richmond Towers, Plainfield for a second tour of their garden. What a difference! Richmond Towers now has over 15 different plants in their garden. One of the most interesting crops to be growing at Richmond Towers is none other than corn! Who would have thought?

We want to thank the Richmond Towers garden club and staff for inviting us to see their harvest for the year. We are so excited to see the garden expand even more!

Josephine’s Place

Thank you to the staff and volunteers of Josephine’s Place for the wonderful tour of their garden! We cannot wait to see what’s next for this amazing garden!

Jewish Family Services of Central New Jersey

Commissioner Bette Jane Kowalski stopped by the Jewish Family Services of Central New Jersey for a tour of their Community Garden.

Summit High School

Thank you to the staff and students from Summit High School who participated in the Union County Kids Dig In School Garden Grant Program!

Livingston Avenue School

Livingston Avenue School staff and students have welcomed a brand new pollinator garden to their school!

Did you know that most native bees are solitary? They are known for laying eggs in tiny tunnels in dead trees, fallen branches, hollow stems, or in sandy soil. For that reason, it is encouraged to add logs and bare patches of sandy soil to your gardens as a means of attracting pollinators to your garden.

Sprouts Academy

Children and staff at Sprouts Academy had a fun day of planting! Together, they were able to plant a total of 10 tomato plants!

Did you know that this is Sprouts Academy’s first time planting with Union County? Not only that, they are also a bilingual daycare!

Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless

Union County Commissioner Chairman Sergio Granados attended the garden tour at the Elizabeth Coalition House in Elizabeth.

The school was awarded the grant enhancement award which helped them set up this new irrigation system. Special thanks to Chris Quinn who did an amazing job and showed us how it all worked.

Thank you to all who participated.
