Teamwork through Gardening
A playful environment where young gardeners can learn through discovery! Soon to be filled with color, texture, and interactive features!

This is the perfect setting for hands-on exploration and growing confidence in the garden. We are very excited to see how the new raised garden bed turns out!

From Seed to Sprout!
Our first trip of the Season with Groundwork Elizabeth!
School 8 was awarded with an ADA raised Garden Bed! Our wonderful gardener Ashley from Groundwork taught the students how to plant different foods and flowers. The kids also promised to water them throughout the summertime. We are so excited to see how their plants grow!

Back in October 2025, students learned how to plant multiple garlic plants from a single bulb, by splitting the bulb into individual cloves and planting them upright. All year, we have been monitoring their growth, and we are finally seeing that they are growing rapidly! Students will harvest this garlic before graduating in June. Thanks to the Union County Kids Dig In Grant, we have the materials needed to make this an annual activity!

Our students were thrilled to find that after a long, cold winter, our raspberry bushes are back and better than ever! We are hoping for fruit this year!

Summer Gardening
Our students attending summertime programs at School No. 4 did a wonderful job of caring for the garden! We have seen zinnia flowers, strawberries, beans, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers, and more!

Our School No. 4 winter crop is breaking ground! We were very excited to see our garlic plants pop up. Looking forward to spring planting!

Update: Linden School No.4 has harvested their squash!
Not only did students do this themselves, they also used their crops to make in-class salads!

Union County Commissioner Sergio Granados and Commissioner Joe Bodek toured and helped harvest garlic at the Linden School No. 4 Garden. The garlic in particular is a student favorite—and these plants that the students harvested were later donated to local senior residents of the Ann J. Ferguson Towers.
Thank you for the invite!

Our K-Kids are working together to plant vegetables and flowers in our School No. 5 Garden.
