Friendship Baptist Church /JFK Community Garden in Rahway

The garden is doing great. We have donated many pounds of zucchini and cucumbers to the church to be given out to people in need.

Astroturf has been applied to the grass areas to keep maintenance down.

We recently sowed carrot and turnip seeds in one area and are preparing another area for more fall crops.

YMCA of Rahway

Today we joined the summer campers at the Rahway YMCA for an amazing day of watering their garden!

A common rule of thumb to know is that plants need about one inch of water per week, which is enough to soak six inches of soil!

Thank you for having us.

TGFYMCA – Rahway Branch

The Gateway Family YMCA of Rahway and Groundwork Elizabeth have planted butternut squash!

Fun Fact: When planting butternut squash, it is important to have a large area for cultivation as the vines can grow up to 15 feet in length! In addition, studies have found that butternut squash can be beneficial for one’s lung health as it can reduce the risk of lung cancer.
