Union County, NJ – Effective immediately, the Union Department of County Parks and Recreation is accepting reservations for picnic areas in County parks. The first available date will be Wednesday, July 1.
To reserve a picnic area online and view a list of County parks with reserve-able picnic areas, visit ucnj.org/parks-recreation/picnic-areas. To reserve a picnic area by phone, call 908-527-4900 or 908-654-9805.
Picnic reservations were suspended through June 30 earlier this year, as part of Union County’s COVID-19 prevention efforts in accordance with statewide orders issued by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
“Following the guidance of public health professionals, we encourage residents and visitors to enjoy our public parks while continuing to exercise precautions to keep from contracting or spreading COVID-19,” said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella.
Social distancing, wearing face masks, washing hands frequently, and keeping hands away from face are among the basic precautions for preventing COVID-19 and other infections. Persons who feel sick should stay away from others.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Union County parks also follow Governor Murphy’s statewide guidelines that limit the number of people in outdoor gatherings. The current limit is 100 people. It will rise to 250 on June 22, and to 500 on July 3.
Recreational facilities and equipment in Union County parks were closed in April to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Since then, the following facilities have re-opened on a modified basis:
Dog Parks (effective June 13)
Tennis Courts (effective June 13)
