Man Charged in Plainfield Stabbing Death

The Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Department continue to investigate the stabbing death of a woman that occurred on Wednesday evening, announced Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas, Jr.

Around 5:10p.m. On Sept. 28, 2011 police were summoned to 316 East 7th Street in Plainfield. When they arrived they found the victim, Audrey Tanksley, 48, on the scene suffering from multiple stab wounds, said Cernadas. Anthony James DOB 8/1/1961 was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder and weapons possession. He is being held at the Union County Jail on $1 million bail.

The investigation revealed that the homicide appears to be an act of domestic violence, said Cernadas. Any additional information will be released as it becomes available.

These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
