The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team is investigating an incident that occurred in Elizabeth earlier this evening, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow. After 10p.m. on Thursday a Jersey City Police Officer working with the United States Marshal Service suffered a gun shot wound while on duty on North Broad Street with his team. The officer was taken to University Hospital and is listed in stable condition. At this point, the public is not in any danger, said Romankow, and the scene is being processed by the UCPO, Elizabeth Police Department and the United States Marshals. Additional information will be released when it becomes available. The shooting response team is mobilized whenever an officer is shot or an officer discharges a weapon.
