A Plainfield Police Sergeant was arrested last night and charged with 4th degree criminal sexual contact, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Samuel Woody, a 12-year member of the force, was arrested in Plainfield yesterday. According to an investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Special Prosecutions Unit and the Plainfield Police Division Internal Affairs Unit, Woody assaulted a female on July 24, 2011. Woody was on duty and in uniform at the time of the alleged criminal sexual contact, said Romankow. It was reported to authorities on January 11, 2012 and an investigation was immediately launched.
Woody, DOB: 3-24-70 of Plainfield was suspended from the force following his arrest. He was later released from custody after posting bail.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
