Plainfield Shooting Death

The Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division continue to investigate the shooting death of a city man that occurred earlier this morning, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

The victim was discovered around 4:19 a.m. Thursday on Roosevelt Ave and E. Front Street in Plainfield, said Romankow. The death was first believed to be a fatal hit and run accident, but was quickly established as a homicide.

As of this afternoon detectives were attempting to notify the victim’s next of kin. No arrests have been made at this point, said Romankow, but the investigation remains active with detectives collecting and examining evidence and securing statements. A motive for the shooting has not yet been established.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Union County Crimestoppers at 908-654-TIPS orwww.uctip.org . All calls are confidential and tips that lead to an arrest and indictment are eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
