Earlier today, Bertin Rodriguez-Reyes, a.k.a. Bryan Rodriguez, pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the October 24, 2010 death of his girlfriend, twenty-year old Jackeline Guillen of Elizabeth, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow. The investigation revealed that Rodriguez-Reyes and the victim were boyfriend-girlfriend and were living together, said Assistant Prosecutor Julie A. Peterman who prosecuted the case, however the victim was in the process of breaking up with Rodriguez-Reyes. The night of the homicide, after the victim’s new boyfriend brought her home Rodriguez-Reyes stabbed her to death after she arrived home. Detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, tracked Rodriguez-Reyes and arrested him three-days after the homicide in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The defendant pled guilty with a sentencing recommendation of twenty-years.
He is scheduled for sentencing on September 14, 2012. He is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, who is expected to be deported following his sentence.
The case was investigated initially by Det. Steve Francisco then Detective Kevin Grimmer and was supervised by Sgt. Jorge Jiminez.
