Plainfield Man Indicted on Sex Abuse Charges

Last week a Union County Grand Jury indicted a Plainfield man on six counts of sexual assault and criminal sexual contact after a police investigation revealed that he regularly abused teenage girl for two years, said Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas.

Thomas McDaniel DOB: 12/5/1957 of East Front St in Plainfield is being held in the Union County Jail on $300,000, said Cernadas. According to the investigation McDaniel abused the victim when she was between the ages of 14 and 16-years-old. Investigations were alerted after the victim confided in a friend who urged the victim to reveal the abuse to her parents. They in turn contacted police in March 2012.

According to the investigation McDaniel would routinely take the victim to strip clubs and GoGo bars throughout Essex, Union and Middlesex Counties. He also exposed the victim to pornography and assaulted her. He was indicted on August 3, 2012 on 1st Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, 2nd Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 3RD Degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, two counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and 4th Degree Criminal Sexual Contact.

These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
