Warrant Issued in August 8 Elizabeth Homicide

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 23-year-old Elizabeth man wanted in connection with a shooting earlier this month in the city that left a 21-year-old dead, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Pictures of the vehicle used in the homicide are on the bottom of this press release. The Union County Homicide Task Force is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and a second suspect wanted in connection with the case.

Islam Gad, A.K.A. Eslam Gad, of Elizabeth, NJ, is charged with murder and weapon offences for the shooting death of Anthony Holmes Jr., which occurred at the intersection of Pine Street and 3rd Street, Elizabeth, NJ, on August 08, 2012 at approximately 11:58 pm, said Romankow.

Holmes Jr. was transported from the scene to University Hospital in Newark where he died the following day, August 09, 2012. A subsequent investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force developed Gad as one of the suspects in the shooting and identified the red 1995 Ford Mustang that was used during the homicide, said Romankow.

The Task Force has confirmed that Gad fled to Egypt on August 16, 2012. A second suspect is being sought and anyone with information is urged to contact Union County Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS, , or text UCTIP plus a message to 274637. Tips that lead to the arrest and indictment of either Gad or his accomplice are eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

Judge Stuart Peim set Gad’s bail at $3.5 million and the Task Force continues its efforts to locate and arrest Gad.

These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
