Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team Investigating an Officer’s Weapon Being Discharged

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team is in the early stages of an investigation involving an officer’s weapon being discharged in Linden earlier today, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

At this point it appears that Piscataway police officers were attempting to arrest an armed robbery suspect at a motel on Rte 1 and 9 around 4pm.

It appears that the suspect attempted to attack the officers and, fearing for their safety at least one officer discharged a weapon. The suspect was struck, was taken to a local hospital and is being treated.

The officers were also taken to local hospitals for an evaluation.

The prosecutor’s office handles all police involved shootings in the county as a matter of course. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
