Elizabeth Man Found Guilty

Mark Toussaint DOB:11/8/1980 of Elizabeth was convicted of 2nd Degree Robbery earlier today, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

On June 15, 2011 around 9:15p.m. Toussaint approached a victim on Morris Avenue and demanded a cell phone, said Assistant Prosecutor Peter L. Benza, who prosecuted the case. When the victim refused, Toussaint threw the victim to the ground and began choking him. Toussaint rummaged through the victim’s pocket, removing $20 dollars, while continuing to grab the victim’s phone, said Benza. At that point, members of the Elizabeth Police Department arrived on the scene and arrested Toussaint. The jury took just three hours to convict Toussaint following a four-day trial. Toussaint faces between five and 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in May 2013, said Benza.
