A Newark man is in custody after an investigation in Linden yielded the seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine earlier this week, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Thursday.
Jose Colon, 43, is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, second-degree possession with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of public property, and two third-degree drug offenses.
A joint investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Guns, Gangs, Drugs and Violent Crimes Task Force and the Linden Police Department’s Narcotics Unit led detectives to a location in Linden where Colon was spotted removing a bag from the trunk of a rented vehicle late Tuesday night. A search of Colon and the vehicle turned up approximately 234 grams of methamphetamine, drugs with a street value of nearly $10,000, plus nearly $3,000 in cash.
Bail was set at $350,000 by state Superior Court Judge Frederic R. McDaniel, who also ordered that Colon surrender his passport.
