Authorities are seeking information from any eyewitnesses to a shooting that took place on a busy stretch of a major highway in Elizabeth early Saturday morning, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Sunday.
The victim of the shooting, a 28-year-old male Elizabeth resident, is in critical condition at a local hospital.
At sometime between 5:15 and 5:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, gunfire coming from a dark-colored SUV or pickup truck struck an occupant of a white BMW SUV on U.S. Routes 1&9 near McClellan Street close to the Newark-Elizabeth border, according to the preliminary investigation. The driver of the vehicle struck by gunfire transported the victim to get emergency medical treatment.
