Fatal shooting in Union Township under investigation

A fatal shooting that took place in Union Township this weekend is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Union Police Department Director Daniel Zieser jointly announced Sunday.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Malikah Taylor.

Members of the Union Police Department responding to a residence on the 2100 block of Melrose Parkway early Sunday morning found Taylor unresponsive at that location, having sustained serious injury, according to the preliminary investigation. Taylor was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 8 a.m.

The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Union Police Department, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriffs Office Crime Scene Unit.
