Rahway woman found guilty in fatal stabbing

A Union County jury has returned a guilty verdict against a woman for the fatal stabbing of her mother in 2020, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Rahway Police Director Nicholas Breiner announced today.

Malika Jones, 26 of Rahway, was found guilty on Friday of Aggravated Manslaughter following a three-week trial before Union County Superior Court Judge Thomas Isenhour. The jury deliberated for a day and a half before returning its verdict.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020, members of the Rahway Police Department responded to a home on the 100 block of East Albert Street, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, who prosecuted the case. Arriving officers found the victim, Inell Jones, 58, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Jones was immediately taken into custody.

A joint investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Rahway Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit resulted in charges being filed against Jones within hours of law enforcement learning of the incident.

Sentencing for this case has been scheduled for January 26, 2024 before Judge Thomas Isenhour.
