Class Attendance

Class attendance is required. Any absences will be reported to your department. If your absence is due to court, illness, etc., the police academy must be notified.


Dress Code Policy

The policy of the John H. Stamler Police Academy is that all employees, instructors, and trainees shall present a professional image in attire and appearance and shall wear authorized clothing that is neat, clean, pressed and properly fitted. Therefore, the following guidelines are adopted with regard to the In-Service Course Program:

Standard dress attire for all persons attending courses at the Police Academy or at a satellite location of the Police Academy shall be as follows:

Male Attendees

  • Class A department uniform (uniform of the day)
  • Business attire consisting of dress slacks, trousers, button down shirt, optional tie, belt, and dress type shoes
  • Professional collared polo style shirt with dress slacks or trousers, belt, and dress type shoes. Shirts must be tucked in.
  • Sport jacket and trousers, and button down shirt
  • Business Suit
  • Shoes, boots, closed-toed shoes in a leather or dress material are appropriate and should be clean and polished. Socks must be worn.

Female Attendees

  • Class A department uniform (uniform of the day)
  • Business attire consisting of dress slacks, button down shirt, belt, and dress type shoes
  • Professional collared polo style shirt with dress slacks or trousers, belt, and dress type shoes. Shirts must be tucked in.
  • Pants, slacks, blouse and/or sweater
  • Business length skirt, blouse and/or sweater
  • Business suit
  • Shoes, boots, flats, closed-toed shoes in a leather or dress material are appropriate and should be clean and polished. Socks must be worn.

Instructors – Standard dress attire for all persons Instructing training Courses at the Police Academy or at a satellite location of the Police Academy shall be as follows.

Male Instructors

  • Class A department uniform (uniform of the day)
  • Shoes, boots, closed-toed shoes in a leather or dress material are appropriate and should be clean and polished. Socks must be worn.
  • Business attire consisting of dress slacks, trousers, button down shirt, tie, belt, and dress type shoes.
  • Sport jacket and trousers
  • Business Suit
  • Authorized John H. Stamler Police Academy collared polo shirt with khaki pants when approved for specific courses by the Director of the Academy or designee. Shirts must be tucked in.

Female Instructors

  • Class A department uniform (uniform of the day)
  • Shoes, boots, flats, closed-toed shoes in a leather or dress material are appropriate and should be clean and polished. Socks must be worn.
  • Business attire consisting of dress slacks, button down shirt, belt, and dress type shoes
  • Business suit
  • Pants, slacks, blouse, and/or sweater
  • Business length skirt, blouse and/or sweater
  • Authorized John H. Stamler Police Academy Instructor collared polo shirt with khaki pants may be worn when approved for specific courses by the Director of the Police Academy or designee. Shirts must be tucked in.

Exceptions to the Dress Code Requirements – for In-service Training Instructors and Attendees. The following are authorized exceptions to the standard dress code for Police Academy course Instructors and Attendees:

  • Persons Instructing or attending any course which involves physical activity, such as, but not limited to, firearms, baton, unarmed defense and physical fitness shall be authorized to wear authorized Department polo shirt with Agency insignia or John H. Stamler Police Academy Instructor collared polo shirt with Khaki pants, or Department Class B uniform when approved by the Director of the Academy or designee. Shirts must be tucked in.
  • Persons Instructing or attending authorized programs at the Police Academy described herein.
  • Other courses at the request of the Lead Instructor and approved by the Police Academy Director or designee.

Firearms

  • Firearms may be worn.
  • If Firearm is exposed sworn personnel shall wear their badge clearly visible on their person.

Prohibited full-time attire

  • Jeans
  • Shorts
  • Sweats/workout clothing
  • Sneakers, sandals, moccasins, flip-flops
  • Shirts without collars
  • Any clothing displaying advertising, cartoons, slogans or humor
  • Any sexually provocative or otherwise inappropriate attire

Any person(s) not complying with the dress code(s) will be refused admittance to a class/course.


Course Confirmation and Cancellation

  • We do not confirm class registrations.  You will only hear from us if a class is full or cancelled.
  • However, if you register for a class and you are unable to attend, you must notify us as soon as possible.

Refund Policy

  • A refund will NOT be issued for failure to attend a course.
  • A credit will be applied only if class cancellation is received two weeks prior to the course starting date
  • or, if the class date is changed and the registrant is unable to attend.
