Recent incidents show scammers spoofing official phone numbers, using the names of real Union County officers, and sending fake warrant documents containing the victim\u2019s personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These calls are entirely fraudulent and intended to steal money and sensitive information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-79912db2b1c6b2bf6ba58a82c5031fe3 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WHEN IN DOUBT, HANG UP.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Law enforcement agencies will never:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demand payment over the phone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request gift cards, prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Threaten immediate arrest for nonpayment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask for personal or financial information over the phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cResidents should know that we will never ask for money over the phone \u2014 not for fines, not for warrants, not for anything,\u201d said Sheriff Peter Corvelli Jr. \u201cIf you receive a call like this, end the conversation immediately and verify with your local police department.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you receive one of these calls, hang up.
