Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: Joining Forces to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Union County

The Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Program (APAD) is a statewide initiative that aims to prevent the onset of alcohol and substance abuse disorders through community-based education and prevention programs. The program is a collaboration between the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) and local communities, working together to develop and implement comprehensive prevention strategies.

APAD provides resources and support to schools, community organizations, and healthcare providers to create targeted programs that promote healthy decision-making and prevent substance abuse disorders. These programs focus on providing education on the risks and consequences of drug and alcohol use, teaching positive coping strategies, and promoting healthy alternatives to substance use.

APAD also works to raise awareness of the importance of addiction prevention through outreach and education campaigns. The program works closely with community leaders, law enforcement, and other organizations to coordinate prevention efforts and promote a culture of prevention and wellness in New Jersey.

Municipal Alliances are established by municipal ordinance and engage residents, local government, and law enforcement officials, schools, nonprofit organizations, the faith community, parents, youth, and other allies in efforts to prevent alcoholism and drug abuse in their communities.

With assistance and oversight from the County Alliance Steering Subcommittee (CASS), the County Alliance Program coordinates with local municipal alliances to plan, develop, and implement community based prevention programs and activities that target substance abuse in their communities.
