Commissioner Stanley Neron is sworn in with his family at his side

Commissioner Stanley J. Neron is a lifelong public servant committed to strengthening families, expanding opportunities for young people, and improving quality of life across Union County.

Born in Brooklyn, New York to Haitian immigrant parents and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Commissioner Neron is a proud first-generation American whose work in public service is rooted in community engagement, equity, and service. He is a graduate of Kean University.

Commissioner Neron previously served on the Elizabeth Board of Education for 12 years after being elected in 2013, including two terms as President, most recently in 2025. During his tenure, the district achieved its highest graduation rate to date, reaching 89 percent. The Elizabeth Public Schools system is the second-largest school district in New Jersey.

He has also served as Assistant Director of the City of Elizabeth’s Department of Health and Human Services, where he supported programs serving seniors, vulnerable families, and at-risk youth. In 2010, following the Haiti earthquake, he helped coordinate statewide relief efforts and assisted families impacted by the disaster.

As Director of Recreation for the City of Elizabeth, Commissioner Neron oversaw major improvements to parks and recreational facilities throughout the city, including playgrounds, athletic fields, spray parks, fitness areas, and community centers in all five wards. He also directed a youth employment program providing paid summer jobs and workforce development opportunities to nearly 300 young people each year.

Earlier in his career, Commissioner Neron worked in the entertainment industry as a writer, producer, filmmaker, and talent agent, collaborating with major media organizations and advocating for authentic storytelling and representation.

Commissioner Neron lives in Elizabeth with his wife and two children. He remains actively involved in community initiatives focused on food access, youth mentorship, and family support, and brings a strong commitment to collaboration and public service to his role on the Union County Board of County Commissioners.
