About the Programs

The Union County Sheriff’s Office internship program was established in 1992 and is open to college juniors and seniors throughout the county. The program provides students with an excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of a governmental agency while earning college credit hours through their university.

Qualified candidates must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, major in criminal justice, public administration, sociology, psychology, or other related field. Students should also be residents of Union County. The following colleges or universities have participated in our program:

  • John Jay College of Criminal Justice
  • Fairleigh Dickinson University
  • Rutgers University
  • Seton Hall University
  • Union College
  • Middlesex County College
  • New Jersey City University
  • Montclair State University

Yearly internship program schedule

  • Fall Session – Second week in September through first week of December
  • Spring Session – Third week of January through second week of May
  • Summer Session – First week of June through first week of August

Application deadlines

  • Fall session – Applications due by July 1st
  • Spring session – Applications due by November 1st
  • Summer session – Applications due by April 1
