SLAP

In 1993, the Union County Sheriff’s Office S.L.A.P. (Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program) program became operational.  Fully supported by the judiciary, this program is an alternative to incarceration for persons sentenced by Municipal or Superior Court Judges. It is essentially a public work program supervised by the Union County Sheriff’s Office S.L.A.P. Division.  Participants are closely screened and must meet rigid eligibility requirements.

S.L.A.P. officers have supervised details in all 21 municipalities in Union County, saving the governing bodies and citizens in these towns thousands of dollars in maintenance costs. The benefit to the offender is they remain free with little interruption of their personal life, while saving the costs of incarceration and providing a service to the citizens of Union County.
