When can I expect results?

Pursuant to new legislation, the primary election results will be canvassed by the Union County Clerk on the 13th day following the primary election.

Further, the general election results will be certified by the Union County Board of County Canvassers on the 13th day following the general election.

Below please find the UCBOE’s schedule for tallying ballots. The General Election schedule is subject to change as there is legislation pending which may affect the timeline.  At the end of each day of tallying, the UCBOE will transmit results to the Union County Clerk’s Office.

Springfield Special School Election – March 14, 2023

  • March 14: Count VBMs received up to Election Day
  • March 16: Count Drop Box VBMs and 48hr ballots without a postmark
  • March 20: Deadline to receive VBMs postmarked on or before Election Day
  • March 21: Count Provisional Ballots (continue through 3/24 as needed)
  • March 25: Count Cured Ballots (12:30pm)
  • March 27:  Meeting of Board of County Canvassers to Certify Election (12:00pm)

Westfield Annual School Board Election – April 25, 2023

  • April 25: Count VBMs received up to Election Day
  • April 27: Count Drop Box VBMs & 48hr ballots without a postmark
  • May 1: Deadline to receive VBMs postmarked on or before Election Day
  • May 2: Count Provisional Ballots (continue through 3/24 as needed)
  • May 6: Count Cured Ballots (12:30pm)
  • May 8: Meeting of Board of County Canvassers to Certify (12:00pm)

Primary Election – June 6, 2023

  • June 6: Count VBMs received up to Election Day
  • June 9: Count Drop Box VBMs & 48hr ballots without a postmark
  • June 12: Deadline to receive VBMs postmarked on or before Election Day
  • June 13: Count Provisional Ballots (continue through 6/16 as needed)
  • June 17: Count Cured Ballots (12:30pm)

General Election – November 7, 2023 – Subject to Change

  • November 7: Count VBMs received up to Election Day
  • November 10: Count Drop Box VBMs & 48hr ballots without a postmark
  • November 13: Deadline to receive VBMs postmarked on or before Election Day
  • November 14: Count Provisional Ballots (continue through 11/17 as needed)
  • November 18: Count Cured Ballots (12:30pm)
  • November 20: Meeting of Board of County Canvassers to Certify (12:00pm)

Runoff Election – December 5, 2023

  • December 5: Count VBMs received up to Election Day
  • December 8: Count Drop Box VBMs & 48hr ballots without a postmark
  • December 11: Deadline to receive VBMs postmarked on or before Election Day
  • December 12: County on time via USPS VBMs & Provisional Ballots
  • December 16: Count Cured Ballots (12:30pm)
