While Union County Parks are usually dry, a number of them also serve a vital role in protecting Union County residents. The USGS (United States Geologic Service) maintains flood monitors in several parks. The monitors are accessible via the internet to see current, and past, water levels. Please note this is a service of the Federal Government and not the County of Union, and the information can also be accessed off the USGS website. The monitors are located here:
Lenape Park: This monitor records conditions on the Rahway River , where it enters the Park just south of Route 22. Data
Nomahegan Park: This monitor records conditions on the Rahway River in the Kenilworth/Cranford area. Data
Passaic River Parkway: This monitor records conditions on the Passaic River at Stanley Avenue Park in Summit. Data
Watchung Reservation: This monitor records conditions on the Green Brook, on the western border of the Reservation, along New Providence Road, just below Seeley’s Dam. Data
Rahway River Park: This monitor records conditions on the Robinson’s Branch of the Rahway River in the Rahway/Linden area. Data
Rahway River Parkway: This monitor records conditions on the Rahway River in the Springfield area. The monitor, which is currently offline, is located where Morris Avenue crosses the river, the site of the Battle of Springfield during the Revolutionary War. Data
Elizabeth River Parkway: This monitor records conditions on the Elizabeth River near Elizabeth’s northern border with Hillside. Data National Weather Service flood stage data unavailable.
