EMS Course Offerings

Altered Mental Status 1

Altered mental status can be a broad patient complaint. This 3 hour class addresses how to evaluate mentation and orientation using AVPU and completing a patient history. We will also discuss several causes of altered mental status and identifying signs and symptoms.

2.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

PREREQUISITE: NJ EMT-B

Altered Mental Status 2

This 3 hour class provides an expanded continuation of AMS 1 by further addressing the knowledge and skills to assess and stabilize certain types of AMS patients for transport. Didn’t take Altered Mental Status 1? No worries- there will be a review of assessment and history taking methods.

2.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

PREREQUISITE: NJ EMT-B

CPAP

This 3 hour class will focus on the use of Positive Airway Pressure as a treatment for respiratory distress using the guidelines set forth by NJ State OEMS. Topics include review of anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, completing a full respiratory assessment, and steps on how to place a CPAP mask and adjust oxygen.

2.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

PREREQUISITE: NJ EMT-B

EMT Refresher A (Airway)

NJ EMT’s require 24 elective CEU credits, along with a 24-hour EMT Refresher to recertify their EMT credentials. This program is designed to satisfy the EMT Refresher component of the renewal for NJ Emergency Medical Technicians. The refresher program has been broken down into three sections: Airway, Trauma, and Medical. Refresher A provides a review of Airway management and a brief overview of the physiology of the airway. Each section is an 8-hour program that does not need to be completed as a set.

Students are required to attend all three sections- A, B, and C in order to utilize these CEUs for their recertification.

PREREQUISITE: Current Professional Level CPR/BLS Card

EMT Refresher B (Medical)

NJ EMT’s require 24 elective CEU credits, along with a 24-hour EMT Refresher to recertify their EMT credentials. This program is designed to satisfy the EMT Refresher component of the renewal for NJ Emergency Medical Technicians. The refresher program has been broken down into three sections: Airway, Trauma, and Medical. Refresher B provides a review of Medical Emergencies, assessment, and treatment options for common medical emergencies experienced in the prehospital setting. Each section is an 8-hour program that does not need to be completed as a set.

Students are required to attend all three sections- A, B, and C in order to utilize these CEUs for their recertification.

EMT Refresher C (Trauma)

NJ EMT’s require 24 elective CEU credits, along with a 24-hour EMT Refresher to recertify their EMT credentials. This program is designed to satisfy the EMT Refresher component of the renewal for NJ Emergency Medical Technicians. The refresher program has been broken down into three sections: Airway, Trauma, and Medical. Refresher C provides a review of traumatic emergencies, assessment, and treatment options for traumatic emergencies experienced in the prehospital setting. Each section is an 8-hour program that does not need to be completed as a set.

Students are required to attend all three sections- A, B, and C in order to utilize these CEUs for their recertification.

Spinal Motion Restriction

Spinal immobilization is out, spinal motion restriction is in! Let’s talk about why. In this 3 hour class we will review the types of spinal cord injuries, spinal motion restriction assessment and special considerations, as well as treatment of suspected spinal cord injuries.

3 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.
