EMS Course Offerings

This four (4) hour course will teach participants the basic life-saving medical interventions that are most effective in treating traumatic life threatening bleeding. These interventions include tourniquet application, the use of compressed gauze and topical hemostatic agents, and airway clearing and maintenance techniques.

This course is intended for all first responders including Police, Fire, and EMS personnel and is being offered free of charge to personnel who perform their duties within Union County. Upon completion of this course each participant will receive a personal bleeding control kit.

This 3 hour class will focus on the use of Positive Airway Pressure as a treatment for respiratory distress using the guidelines set forth by NJ State OEMS. Topics include review of anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, completing a full respiratory assessment, and steps on how to place a CPAP mask and adjust oxygen.

2.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

Spinal immobilization is out, spinal motion restriction is in! Let’s talk about why. In this 3 hour class we will review the types of spinal cord injuries, spinal motion restriction assessment and special considerations, as well as treatment of suspected spinal cord injuries.

3 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

NJ EMT’s require 24 elective CEU credits, along with a 24-hour EMT Refresher to recertify their EMT credentials. This program is designed to satisfy the EMT Refresher component of the renewal for NJ Emergency Medical Technicians.

The refresher program has been broken down into three sections: Airway, Trauma, and Medical. Refresher A provides a review of Airway management and a brief overview of the physiology of the airway. Each section is an 8-hour program that does not need to be completed as a set. Students are required to attend all three sections- A, B, and C in order to utilize these CEUs for their recertification.

This 3.5 hour class will address medical emergencies to consider for your female patients that are gynecological or obstetrical in nature. We will discuss how to do a good history and physical exam and how to anticipate potential problems up to delivery.

3.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

This 3.5 hour class will talk about how to make that decision through the gathering of a thorough patient history and performance of a physical assessment, setting up the patient for a safe delivery, and then caring for mom and baby.

3.5 elective CEU’s will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion.

Altered mental status can be a broad patient complaint. This 3 hour class addresses how to evaluate mentation and orientation using AVPU and completing a patient history. We will also discuss several causes of altered mental status and identifying signs and symptoms.
