Public Notice from the United Way of Greater Union County
Union County, New Jersey awarded $297,764 in federal funds through the department of Homeland Security (DHS), under the emergency food and shelter program (EFSP) phase 38.
The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Union County Local Board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.
Notice is hereby given to all interested parties that the Union County Local EFSP Board will accept applications from local agencies and/or organizations for funding in the categories of (1) emergency other food, (2) mass shelter, (3) served meals, and (4) rent/mortgage assistance.
Please note: EFSP funding is only for eligible organizations, not for individuals or families. This is not FEMA funding for disaster relief.
The Union County Local Board will review applications and determine how funds will be distributed.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

- Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Appeals
- Applicants not selected for participation may appeal, provided it is based upon Board violations of program regulations only. No appeals will be heard based on award level.
- A written appeal must be submitted within 10 business days of notification.
- Appeals will be made to the Local Board or a Committee of Local Board members. A written outcome will be provided within 10 business days.
