After receiving a subdivision approval from your Municipal Planning Board and the County Planning Board the next step in the process is recording the associated plat with the County Clerk’s office. This requires various signatures and seals to these plat plans by various municipal offices. The New Jersey Map Filing Law (P.L. 2011, Chapter 217; N.J.S.A. 46:26A-1, et. seq.) defines the documents to be recorded, contents of documents/maps, the prerequisites for recording, and associated signatures and seals required on said documents and maps. To assist you in the process we have provided a checklist at the bottom of this page to help guide you on items needed before recording your plat with the County Clerk’s Office. The Union County Clerk’s office requires two copies of the associated subdivision plat in Mylar form with all appropriate data, signatures and seals clearly legible for review prior to recording. One additional paper or Mylar copy can be signed for personal or municipal records. Contact the County Clerk’s office (908-527-4787) for the recording fee and any associated plat recording requirements they may require. As of May 1, 2017, a mandatory “Recording Data Cover Page” required by the Clerk’s office to be filled out for property recordings under the “What’s New” section on the lower left section of this web page found at this web address: clerk.ucnj.org/UCPA/DocIndex.
