One Seat” Train Ride into New York City

The Raritan Valley Rail Coalition has been advocating for a “one-seat” ride into NYC Penn Station for more than 15 years. Previously, direct service was not an option because the diesel powered trains were a safety issue in the tunnels. NJ Transit now has dual-powered locomotives and track connectivity so trains on the Raritan Valley Line (RVL) can go into NYC without transferring in Newark Penn Station. Going forward, capacity in the current tunnels is the issue to resolve. NJ TRANSIT has dedicated the dual locomotives to the RVL and is in the process of granting more and more access in different time slots.
