Union County, NJ — The Union County Department of Parks and Recreation has released details of its annual Deer Management Program, which will run on most Mondays beginning on January 8 and continuing to February 5. In case of inclement weather or a holiday, the program moves to the following Wednesday or Friday.

The program will operate in the Watchung Reservation, the Summit portion of Passaic River Park, Ash Brook Reservation, Lenape Park, Nomahegan Park, Oak Ridge Park and the Hawk Rise Sanctuary.

These parks will not be closed during the deer management program; however, portions of some roadways inside the park may be closed for short periods if necessary. Park visitors are urged to stay on the marked hiking, walking and bridle trails, and adhere to the County ordinance that requires that pets be restrained on a leash.

The deer management program will be supervised by the Union County Police and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.  Anyone found hunting on any County park property outside the terms of this program will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  Citizens observing any such illegal activity are urged to immediately contact the Union County Police at 908-654-9800.

Warming Center Information

Due to the freezing weather, the Union County Freeholder Board is announcing that the County of Union, through the efforts of the Department of Human Services, Sheriff’s Office and County Police, will be opening up warming centers in the lobbies at the following locations:

• The Union County Division of Social Services in Elizabeth: 342 Westminster Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ 07208
• The Union County Division of Social Services Building in Plainfield (Park-Madison Building): 200 West Second Street, Plainfield, NJ 07063

The Centers will be open beginning Thursday, January 4th from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday Morning;

• Friday, January 5^th, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
• Saturday, January 6^th, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
• Sunday, January 7^th, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday morning.
