Welcome

The County of Union Parks & Recreation Department is seeking seasonal summer staff to work at Walter E. Ulrich Pool in Rahway, Wheeler Spray Park in Linden or in one of our Park Maintenance Crews located throughout the county.

You must be 16 years old by no later than May 15th of this year.

The summer season runs Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. Please continue below to look at available positions, how to fill out and submit the provided application and other important information.

Seasonal Job Position Job Fairs

Warinanco Skating Center, 1 Park Drive in Roselle

Monday, May 1st 3pm to 6pm

Seasonal Job Positions Available

Lifeguards

  • Must be a strong swimmer and will be required to take and pass all safety courses required
  • Supervising swimmers, spotting hazards and preventing accidents
  • Ensure the safety of all patrons
  • Water rescue and administering First Aid, CPR and AED as needed
  • Maintaining order in swimming areas
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of all areas
  • Maintaining records and reports
  • Any and all other duties that are requested

Pool Attendants

  • Setting up facility for opening.
  • Remove trash from the entire facility
  • Welcoming guests and ensuring their safety and comfort
  • Clearing trash receptacles and cleaning of restroom
  • Clean bathroom facilities
  • Ensure guests follow the rules and safety guidelines

Spray Park Attendants

  • Setting up facility for opening
  • Ensuring that the splash park facilities is clean and safe at all times
  • Welcoming guests and ensuring their safety and comfort
  • Clearing trash receptacles and cleaning of restrooms
  • Knowledge of splash park equipment and safety measures
  • Consistent professional appearance and pleasant demeanor.
  • Ensure all points of access are properly maintained
  • Any and all other duties that are requested

Park Maintenance Laborers

  • Litter pick up on the back of the garbage truck
  • Matting and marking baseball & soccer fields 
  • Mowing grass
  • Trimming and weed whacking 
  • Cleaning restrooms
  • Painting
  • Tree trimming
  • Any and all other duties that are requested

Park Maintenance Park Attendants

  • Picking up garbage off the ground
  • Occasionally raking   
  • Assisting in ballfield maintenance
  • Cleaning and assisting in the maintenance of spray parks
  • Bathroom cleaning
  • Any and all other duties that are requested

Step 1Universal Employee Transaction Sheet

Fill out your name (in the correct order: last, first, middle initial), address, phone number you can be reached at, your e-mail address, social security number and date of birth.

  • Please check one from each category: EEO Race/ Ethnic ID, sex, marital status and veteran status.
  • Fill out your emergency contact information.
  • Fill out years of education and college degree, if applicable.
  • Do NOT fill out anything else, the rest of the information is for your employer to do.

Step 2 Employment Eligibility Verification

Fill out the following: last name, first name, middle initial, address (including apartment number, if applicable), city, state, zip code, date of birth, social security number, your e-mail address and your telephone number.

  • Please print out the fillable sheet.
  • Please check mark your immigration status and sign and date at the bottom where it says Signature of Employee.
  • You MUST include a copy of a photo ID and your social security card. If you have a passport you only need a copy of that.

Step 3Application for Seasonal Employment

Please fill out position applied for, refer to the above list and descriptions of available jobs.

  • Please print out the fillable sheet.
  • Please fill out the entire application. This includes all applicant information, employment records, Military Service (if applicable), education, miscellaneous, and references. All information must be filled out.
  • Sign and date at the bottom.

Under 18? – Step 4 Obtain Working Papers

If you are under the age of 18 you MUST obtain working papers from your school guidance department.

  • For questions and directions on how working papers need to be filled out please speak to your school guidance department.
  • Effective June 1st, 2023 you will be able to get your working papers online. Details can be found by clicking here.

Step 5Job Information Agreement

Fill out and sign the correct Job Information Agreement.

There are separate packets, one for Park Maintenance and the other the Pool/Spray Park. This must be completed in full, or we can not proceed with your application.

  • Please print out sheet you want to be considered for.
  • You can fill out one or both if you want to be considered for more than one position.

Step 6Submit Documents

After filling out all the required paperwork above, please email everything back to jgaestel@ucnj.org.
