Free Workshop “Harness the Power of Google” for Non-Profit Cultural Organizations to be Held Thursday, September 20th

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders will present a free workshop, “Harness the Power of Google” on Thursday, September 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Liberty Hall Wagon Shed Building, located at 1003 Morris Avenue in Union Township.

“Non-profit organizations have a constant need for free resources that help them expand their reach,” said Freeholder Chairman Sergio Granados. “The ‘Harness the Power of Google’ Workshop will introduce local cultural organizations to the current free Google tools available to them as well as equip them with the blueprint for leveraging these tools to increase their visibility and reach within our communities.”

The workshop is designed for arts, cultural and history organizations. Participants are invited to learn specific ways to use Google’s latest free tools to boost traffic to their organization’s website, increase audience engagement, and post events to increase their audience. Attendees will also learn about strategies to attract and manage online reviews, hear about voice search — a rapidly expanding portion of search queries, and more. Time permitting, the session may cover rudimentary basics of Google Ad Grants.

“This session will provide a terrific opportunity for non-profits to learn about current tools and techniques for promoting their cultural programs at no cost,” said Freeholder Bruce H. Bergen, liaison to the Union County Cultural and Heritage Programs Advisory Board.

Bruce Mishkin, the President of Adventix, will present the workshop. He brings fifteen years of experience in developing Google AdWords advertising campaigns for local and national businesses to his work at Adventix, a marketing and advertising agency specializing in helping arts organizations achieve success in the digital landscape. He is also an expert on local search engine optimization.

The workshop is funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. It is presented through the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, in the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The workshop is free but pre-registration is required by September 19th

To register, contact the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs by email at culturalinfo@ucnj.org or call 908-558-2550 (NJ Relay users dial 711). NJ Transit One-Seat Ride Suspension

On September 10, New Jersey Transit’s one-seat ride on the Raritan Valley Line will be temporarily suspended, impacting residents of Union County who use the service. The trains remain but instead of continuing into Penn Station New York, they will terminate in Newark and riders will need to transfer for trains to and from New York City.

Freeholder Bruce Bergen, Chairman of the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition, and Freeholder Vice Chair Bette Jane Kowalski met with NJ TRANSIT officials in August, when NJ Transit advised the County of the upcoming service change. The suspension of the one-seat ride will last through the end of 2018.

“NJ Transit officials have assured us that the one-seat-ride will be restored early in 2019,” said Freeholder Bergen.

At that time NJ TRANSIT explained the need to temporarily suspend one-seat ride service in order to complete work on the Positive Train Control (PTC) project. This would assist NJ TRANSIT to meet a federal December 31st deadline. The Raritan Valley Rail Coalition representatives were assured the one-seat ride trains would be returned as soon as possible to the December deadline.

Union County Clerk Advises Residents on New Vote by Mail Options

Union County, NJ – Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi advises residents that the new application form for Vote by Mail ballots in New Jersey now provides an option for voters to receive their ballots automatically, for every election as well as any special elections.

“The new option eliminates the need to keep repeating the application step, so it is a convenience for voters who plan to use Vote by Mail every year, for both the Primary and General elections,” said Ms. Rajoppi. “However, it is still important to know how the process works, and choose the option that works best for you.”

All voters who plan to use a Vote by Mail ballot in the 2018 General Election must first submit an application form as usual, in order to receive their ballot. Section 1 of the new application lists the available options.

Applicants who wish to opt into the new system and receive ballots for all elections automatically, every year, must check the box for “ALL FUTURE ELECTIONS.”

Applicants who only want a ballot for the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 6, must check the box for “General (November).”
