William Tomko of Mountainside Receives the French Legion of Honor Medal

Union County Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella (2nd R) and Vice Chairman Linda Carter (R) present a resolution to William Tomko (C) of Mountainside congratulating him on receiving the French Legion of Honor Medal for his service in World War II. This prestigious distinction underlines the deep appreciation and gratitude of the French people who were liberated during World War II. Tomko served onboard the USS Barnett, an amphibious transport ship, which took part in the invasions of Sicily, Italy, Marseilles in the south of France and the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He also saw action in the Pacific Theater at Okinawa.
