Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi reminds voters who are using a Vote-by-Mail ballot that they can monitor the status of their ballots online, by using the free “Track My Ballot” portal provided by the Division of Elections in the New Jersey Department of State.
The County Clerk’s office in Elizabeth is located in the County Courthouse, at 2 Broad Street (access via Elizabethtown Plaza entrance on Saturday, June 4).
“The Track My Ballot portal enables Vote-by-Mail users to see if their ballot has been received. It provides voters with transparency and clarity regarding the Vote-by-Mail process,” said Ms. Rajoppi. “We encourage all Vote-by-Mail users to sign up for this free service.”
When the Vote-by-Mail ballot is received by the Board of Elections, Track My Ballot will indicate “received.” On or shortly after Election Day, Track My Ballot will indicate if the ballot was accepted.
Voters can use the system at any time on a 24/7 basis.
In case of a rejected ballot, the voter is provided with an opportunity to cure their ballot. They will receive a letter from the Board of Elections with instructions on how to proceed.
Vote-by-Mail users are reminded that the counting of both Vote-by-Mail and in-person ballots will begin after the polls close on Tuesday, November 8.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and to honor that, the Union County Board of County Commissioners, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, the Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs and the American Job Center, will host an Inclusive Hiring Event for Union County residents with disabilities and specials needs who are 18 years of age and older on Friday, October 28, 2022.
“We encourage all residents to attend this inclusive hiring event, where they can speak in-person with representatives from various companies and learn about the different positions available,” said Commissioner Chair Rebecca Williams. “This is a great opportunity and on behalf of the Board, I would like to thank the Office for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs and the American Job Center and its participants for coordinating these efforts.”
Beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Inclusive Hiring event will be held at the Warinanco Sports Center, located at 1 Park Drive in Warinanco Park. Various positions are available with employers Walgreens, Council for Airport Opportunity (CAO), Port Authority of NY/NJ, and IKEA.
“After speaking to many residents and their families about hosting an inclusive hiring event dedicated to those with special needs and disabilities, I brought this initiative to our committee and I am so thankful we were able to put this together for our residents,” said Commissioner Sergio Granados, liaison to the Workforce Development Board. “We have worked with the employers you will find at this hiring event at previous events and they continue to advocate for our County community. The Friends of the Child Advocacy Center of Union County is hosting its 6th Annual Race 4 The Children 5-kilometer run/2-mile walk on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 at 9:00am in Warinanco Park, Roselle, NJ. All proceeds of the race will be directed to the Child Advocacy Center of Union County.
Registration can be completed online at www.runsignup.com/race/nj/linden/race4thechildren. The costs to register is $25, which includes a t-shirt. Any runner who is 18 years or under has a $10 cost to register. The top three runners in the 5k race will receive a Visa gift card, valued at $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place.
The Child Advocacy Center of Union County provides wrap-around investigative, prosecutorial, psychological, medical, and mental health services to young victims of physical and sexual abuse. Funds that are raised during this race will be committed to paying costs associated with mental health intake evaluation and treatment for children with post-traumatic stress disorder, suicidal ideation, and depression following the disclosure of sexual abuse.
This USATF-sanctioned route is a mostly flat course running through beautiful Warinanco Park and extends through cordoned-off streets in Elizabeth to reach the Child Advocacy Center, before heading
back into the park toward the finish line. This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Child Advocacy Center of Union County, The Union County Board of County Commissioners, City of Elizabeth/Mayor Chris Bollwage, and is in memory of the late Union County Prosecutor Andrew K. Ruotolo Jr. The Friends of the Child Advocacy Center of Union County is a 501(c)(3) organization.
The Union County Board of County Commissioners and the City of Rahway invite residents with disabilities and special needs to attend the free “Halloween Bash,” an evening of seasonal festivities, on Friday, October 21.
The event will feature dancing, games, arts and crafts, and a Haunted House. Party goers are asked to wear costumes, as there will be a Halloween costume contest with prizes.
Light refreshments will also be provided.
“Our goal as County Commissioners is to ensure that our public recreation programs help every Union County resident feel connected, respected and included, as we celebrate the fall season and all throughout the year. We thank the Rahway City Council for all their support,” said Commissioner Chair Rebecca L. Williams.
“The Rahway City Council and I are proud to once again partner with the County Board of Commissioners to present this special Halloween event for members of our community with disabilities and special needs. This reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that recreational opportunities are available for all residents,” said Mayor of Rahway Raymond Giacobbe.
The Halloween Bash will take place on Friday, October 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rahway Recreation Center, 275 East Milton Avenue in Rahway.
Ages 16 and up are invited. This is a drop-off respite program. Parents and guardians are also welcome to stay.

A lo largo del fin de semana, los sitios de Four Centuries contarán con recorridos especiales, exhibiciones, actuaciones y actividades únicas, lo que permitirá a los participantes seguir los mismos pasos de aquellos que vivieron en el Condado de Union hace cientos de años, tanto en tiempos de guerra como de paz. In honor of the 2022 Open Space, Recreation & Historical Preservation Trust Fund Grant Programs: 2022 Kids Recreation Trust Grant and 2022 Greening Union County Grants, this video was aired at the Thursday, October 6th Board of County Commissioners meeting. The Union County Board of County Commissioners invites residents and visitors to experience hundreds of years of history at three dozen historical sites in two days, during the annual Four Centuries in a Weekend event coming up on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.
“Our connections to the past inform our hopes for the future, and that is why it is so important to understand the people, places and events that shape our present,” said Commissioner Chair Rebecca L. Williams. “On behalf of the Commissioner Board, we thank the staff and volunteers at our participating historical sites for their time, energy and dedication to historical accuracy. Four Centuries in a Weekend would not be possible without them.”
Throughout the weekend, Four Centuries sites will feature special tours, exhibits, performances and unique activities, enabling participants to walk in the very footsteps of those who lived in Union County hundreds of years ago, during times of war as well as peace.
Among the Revolutionary War sites is the Osborn Cannonball House Museum. Two of the 13 siblings raised in that home were soldiers in the Revolutionary War, far from the toys and games they enjoyed as children. Visitors can explore a collection of 18th century toys and play a game of quoits or 9-pin bowling.
At the Dr. William Robinson Plantation Museum in Clark, visitors can immerse themselves in a World War II living history program and learn about civilian efforts that supported troops, including a USO show, uniform and weaponry displays, and a signal corps tent with authentic, functioning equipment.
In peacetime, many Union County residents flocked to the Rahway Theatre in Rahway, a vintage vaudeville house and movie theatre that opened in 1928 with all the trimmings including a Wurlitzer pipe organ. The site is fully restored as the Main Stage of the Union County Performing Arts Center. Historian and author Irv Hyatt will lead theatre tours both days. Four Centuries visitors will learn how projectionists operate the film equipment, and hear the organ run through its paces at the touch of a key, including drums, cymbals and a xylophone.
Another aspect of early 20th century leisure is illustrated by the Shady Rest Country Club in Scotch Plains, the first Black-owned country club in the United States. Four Centuries visitors can enjoy free activities including mini-golf, a putting contest with prizes, arts and crafts, horseback riding (Saturday only), and live jazz (Sunday only) along with tours and exhibits.
Shady Rest will also host a screening of the documentary “A Place for Us,” which chronicles the important role of Shady Rest in the life and culture of the community. The film also features John Shippen, the first African-American professional golfer to play in the U.S. Open.
Many sites in Union County offer special activities during during Four Centuries in a Weekend, including:
Berkeley Heights — Deserted Village of Feltville / Glenside Park
• Walking tour led by archaeologist Carissa Scarpa (departs 2:00 pm from Masker’s Barn on Sat. and Sun.); learn about excavations that revealed the social history of certain significant periods here, through examination of physical evidence
• Activities for children: old-fashioned children’s games; quill and ink pen writing
• Campfire with marshmallow toasting
• Learn about this village’s history in multiple ways: interpretive panels, audio tour, museum displays, booklet for a self-guided tour, or an armchair tour presented by “David Felt”
• Meet costumed characters from Feltville history, including Revolutionary War soldier John Willcocks, and David Felt, who owned and developed the mill town here
• View recently completed restoration work on House #7

La Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Union invita a los residentes al Día de Diversión Familiar, el evento final de la celebración del Mes de la Herencia Hispana del Condado el sábado 15 de octubre de 1:00 p.m. a las 5:00 p. m. El evento tendrá lugar en Rahway River Park, cerca de Walter E. Ulrich Memorial Pool, ubicado en St. Georges Avenue en Rahway. La asistencia es gratuita y todos son bienvenidos a asistir.
“Este mes ha sido una celebración y una mirada a la historia de la población hispana en el Condado de Union: aquellos que construyeron nuestro pasado y aquellos que contribuyen a nuestro presente”, dijo la Presidenta de la Junta de Comisionados Rebecca Williams. “Este es nuestro evento final de nuestras festividades de un mes y espero verlos a todos el 15 de octubre”.
El evento será el escenario para honrar a las personas y organizaciones que han sido fundamentales para elevar el estatus y la visibilidad de la comunidad hispana en el condado de Union. Los homenajeados de 2022 serán:

UU., las escuelas de todo el país ahora inscriben a más del doble de estudiantes latinos que en la década de los 90, lo que aporta una multitud de talentos y recursos que hacen que nuestras escuelas sean más diversas y más fuertes”, dijo el comisionado Sergio Granados. . “El Mes de la Herencia Hispana ha sido un gran éxito, atrayendo a cientos de residentes a cada evento. Me gustaría agradecer a todos los departamentos, organizaciones y voluntarios del condado de Union por coordinar estos esfuerzos”.
